How to harness the power of compound interest to fast track your goals!

When it comes to setting goals, people often take big leaps to achieve that goal in as little time as possible. This often makes the goal seem daunting and can lead to procrastination, frustration, burnout, and even failure. So how can we sustainably achieve our goals?

Let me introduce you to compound interest. If there was ever to be a seventh wonder of the world, this would be it. Look at the image below.

If we got 1% better every day, this would be 37% better in a year. However, if we got 1% worse every day, we nearly decreased to zero.

What we see as a small insignificant change day to day creates such a drastic difference for better or worse. Thus, not only is it important to add minor changes that make us one percent better every day, it is also vital to ensure we do not get worse day to day.

Some small changes to be 1% better can be very easy to make and do not take much effort.

For example, if your goal was to decrease your 2km running time, you would have to start with every run to be 1 second faster than your last time. If you consistently stick to beating your last time by one second, you will reach your desired time before you know it.

This principle can be applied to any goal. It will help you achieve that goal faster and more sustainably by preventing burnout and procrastination.
