At 45, I wasn’t happy with the way I looked and felt, I was frustrated and stuck on what to do with myself. I wasn’t confident to go to a gym on my own and my friends weren’t interested to come with me.
My Daughter spotted a post on Facebook about a bootcamp near home, I signed up and thought I’d give it a go and see what happens. I quickly realised how unfit I was and my body was so sore for weeks, although I was motivated to keep going.
I committed to exercising three times a week which became part of my routine!
Prior to joining bootcamp, I was having two glasses of wine every night after work and a few more on the weekend. I thought I was eating pretty healthy food and didn’t buy too much takeaway. I really didn’t know anything about clean eating or meal prepping, it was completely foreign to me.
I learnt more about nutrition and started to change habits such as cutting out the alcohol and drank Soda water instead, I was dunking a few biscuits in my cuppa which I changed to raw veg and hummus. By making changes to my habits, eating better options and doing three bootcamp sessions a week, I lost weight over a 12 month period and took photos in my blue bikini.
I was hooked on the exercise and kept challenging myself to try new things in the gym, climbing the vertical rope, learning how to do a chin up and it continued on to other things. I was looking for a new challenge and found Supafit on Facebook, I ended up joining with Janniece Day and have made many new friends during the last three years.
When I arrived at Supafit I noticed the poster in the foyer of Coach Mon and Coach Cam from one of their bodybuilding competitions. I was keen to learn more about it and got Coach Mon to set me up for success by writing the training program, meal plan and showed me how to do the posing on stage.
I enjoyed the structure and discipline of the program which transformed my body in a way I never thought would happen. I participated in my first bodybuilding competition in 2020 with Coach Mon which was a huge achievement.
I have learnt a lot since being a member at Supafit, it’s not just about performing the exercises in the gym. Coach Cam distributes information to all members about food, sleep, stress and many more topics to educate us on how to live a healthy lifestyle. It’s about making progress one step at a time and setting achievable goals over a period of time.
I completed my Fitness Certificate this year and feel privileged to be a Coach at Supafit at age 53. What’s next?
The key message to my story is to not let your age thoughts, feelings and other people hold you back from achieving something you want to do.
